START WITH YOUR LIFE

Your wardrobe should support the life you actually live.

START WITH YOUR LIFE

Before we think about clothes, let’s think about the life you actually live…

LOOK AT YOUR REAL LIFE

Before you decide what your wardrobe needs, take a moment to look at the life you actually live. Not the life you think you should be living. Not the life you had ten years ago. And not the fantasy version where every day involves lunch somewhere fabulous.

Think about a normal week. ‍ ‍Where do you spend your time? What do you actually do? Where do you go? What kind of weather and environment do you live in? And what do you need your clothes to allow you to do comfortably?

For example, my life is a little unusual. I live on a boat, so my wardrobe needs to work around sailing, hot weather, being outdoors, getting on and off the boat, shopping and errands ashore, travelling, fishing and socialising. I also spend time creating, working and simply enjoying life on board. That means a wardrobe built around corporate dressing, formal occasions or a city commute wouldn’t make much sense for me.

Your life may look completely different — and that’s the point. Perhaps you work or volunteer. Maybe you spend a lot of time gardening, walking or exercising. You might work from home, care for grandchildren, travel frequently, have a busy social life, spend weekends away, go out for lunches and dinners, or simply love being at home.

There is no right or wrong way to spend your life.

Your wardrobe needs to reflect the life you actually live. Where you spend your time, what you do, where you go and how you like to live all shape what belongs in your wardrobe.

There’s no right or wrong life to dress for.

Your wardrobe simply needs to work for yours.

YOUR LIFE, NOT SOMEONE ELSE’S

Before you think about what you need in your wardrobe, think about what you actually need to dress for.
