There isn’t one way to grow older. Over the years, I’ve realised that we all arrive at different places in our lives, and rarely at exactly the same time. Sometimes we need permission to do something differently.
Sometimes we’re wondering what gives our life meaning now.
Sometimes we’re working out who we are after so much has changed.
And sometimes, more than anything, we simply need people who understand us.
That’s why I created the Silver Wave Compass.
It isn’t a map with one destination marked at the end. It’s four guiding points to help you find your own direction, in your own time. You don’t have to follow them in any particular order. You might spend years moving between them, or find yourself drawn strongly to one for a while.
Come back to the Compass whenever you need to.
You are here for a reason.
PERMISSION
There comes a point when you realise you don’t need everyone else’s approval before making a choice about your own life.
Permission begins when you stop asking what everyone else expects and start listening to yourself.
It’s choosing what feels right for you, even when it looks different from what other people might choose.
It’s saying yes to your own life, in your own voice.
PURPOSE
Purpose doesn’t necessarily arrive as one enormous calling.
Sometimes it begins with curiosity. Something catches your attention and you find yourself thinking, I wonder what that would be like?
Purpose begins when you put your time and energy into the things that matter to you now.
It might be something you’ve always wanted to try, something you once loved and would like to rediscover, or something completely new.
IDENTITY
We change throughout our lives.
Sometimes so gradually that we don’t notice until one day we realise that the woman we are now isn’t quite the woman we expected to become. That doesn’t mean we’ve lost ourselves.
It means we’ve lived.
Identity is about recognising who you are now, honouring everything that has brought you here, and becoming comfortable with the woman you’re still becoming.
BELONGING
There is something rather wonderful about finding people with whom you don’t have to explain yourself. People who understand your humour, your history, your hopes and perhaps even the things you don’t say out loud.
Belonging is about connection, understanding and acceptance.
It’s knowing that there are people who will walk beside you, celebrate the good things and stay when life isn’t quite so easy.
WHY A FLEUR-DE-LIS?
For centuries, the fleur-de-lis has been associated with guidance, direction and the journey of travellers and explorers.
At Silver Wave by Design, it represents something a little more personal.
A compass can tell you which way is north, but it can’t tell you where you belong.
The truest direction isn’t always found on a map.
Sometimes it’s found by trusting yourself.
